Critical Reading for a Response Paper

As you read, look for ideas you are interested in writing about/responding to (you will eventually narrow to one). This will help you when you get an assignment in terms of choosing a topic and figuring out how you want to respond. After you choose your topic, you will

1. Support an idea in the reading you agree with

2. Challenge an idea in the reading you disagree with

3. Discuss a missed idea the author did not address

4. Offer a solution to the issue the author addresses

5. Analyze the author’s support & reasons: logic; depth

6. Address a related topic that has bearing on the issue
