Integrating
Source Material and Quotes
·
Start and end every ¶
with your own writing.
·
Lead into each quote
with your own words. (The beginning of a sentence should never be quotation
marks; it should be your words.)
·
Do not let quotes take
over your paper.  Use them to make your
point and explicate them thoroughly.
Explain how they enhance your point.
·
Attribute!  Differentiate characters from authors.  Take care to acknowledge literary critics.
·
If a quote is five lines
or more, use block quotes.
·
Use ellipses correctly
to indicate when you have removed words
·
Use brackets correctly
to alter quotes.
·
If you are including
both narration and dialogue, take care to use single hash marks to indicate a
quote within a quote.
