Formal Paper Two:  Revision of Exam or Short Story Analysis

Formal Paper Two will be a step-by-step, in-depth revision of either your short story exam or your short story analysis.  YOU MUST SELECT THE PAPER THAT EARNED THE LOWEST GRADE.  If this is the exam, for the revision, you must include a piece of literary criticism and a Works Cited page.  Please follow the assignment schedule below, carefully working on each step of the revision.

Progress Analysis:  Due Monday, April 6th.

Carefully read the feedback on both papers and look at the evaluation sheet, particularly in terms of how your writing has progressed since the diagnostic.  What do the exam and final draft of paper one tell you about your writing progress?  Compose a ¶ of 250+ words analyzing your progress in terms of your personal writing goals and issues.  Include observations re: growth, mastery, new issues to work on, and anything else that is relevant to improving your writing.

Content Corrections:  Due Monday, April 13th.

Go through your paper and put letters next to the suggestions or questions (not congratulations) that I have made in the margins.  Do not concern yourself with grammar yet.  Then, choose three comments to respond to.  For each, do the following:  Using the same letter, please paste in your original text; then, type my comment.  Finally, revise the indicated portion so as to address the comment.  Although it is tempting, do not revise the entire paper yet.  Just include the comment, original text & correction.

Correction Sheets and Error Analysis:  Due Monday, April 20th.

Log the errors for both papers on your error log.  Carefully following directions, fill in the correction sheet for your most frequent error, read about the error and learn how to correct it.  Then, compose a ¶ explaining what the rule is.  Use your own words, not the words of the source you consulted.  Then, explain how you have broken the rule.  Give an example of your error, and then give an example of fixing the error based on the rule.  Explain the correction.

Complete Revision:  Due Monday, April 27th.

Correction Sheet

Name:  _______________________     Most Frequent Error(s):  __________________________

1.  After logging your errors and discovering your most frequent error(s), go through your composition and number each instance of your most frequent grammatical error.

2.  Using this sheet, go through and correct each, taking care to match the numbers on your composition to the numbers on your corrections.

3.  In order to receive credit for this assignment, you must write out the entire sentence.

4.  Please make a total of 8 corrections.  Begin with your most frequent error, and if you have fewer than 8, select any other errors you would like in order to make up the difference.  If you have fewer than 8 total, please correct each mistake you have made.
